Thursday, December 21st, 2006

WARNING: very explicit, definitely NSFW, and only slightly funny

keyless entry

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

keyless entry car locks are really insecure, even moreso than you might have thought. Assuming you can hit two buttons a second, you would be through the sequence in 26 minutes. But once you hit the correct code you stop, so on average it will only take 13 minutes. (And if you mess up the sequence, you can just go back 5 numbers and restart). If you put together a small button-pressing device (cost: ~$20 and two hours of labor), you could probably get it in under 2 minutes. Or, you could just break a window.
